World of love, Bangladesh

1994

World of Love, One World, Four Families was a photo project commissioned by theTropen Museum in Amsterdam. Four Dutch photographers made photographs in Senegal, Colombia, Bangladesh and the Netherlands. The pictures show that love and the bond between people in different situations and in large or small families are recognizable and universal.

I took pictures of an extended family in the village of Haripur, Bangladesh, which was about 200 km north of Dhaka. The family consisted of an older couple, their three sons and their wives and children, and one grandchild. Each family had its own hut on the small property. The men worked as rickshaw drivers or farmed and the women sometimes earned extra money by rolling cigarettes.

The photographs were shown in the Tropen Museum, Amsterdam
